Palma de Mallorca hosted one of the most closely fought editions of the Copa del Rey Mapfre in recent years, and the GP42 GARM, sponsored by Multiverse Computing through lead investor GP Bullhound, closed the week on the podium.
Racing in the Sail Racing ORC A class, GARM is led by Per Roman, founder of GP Bullhound and one of the lead investors in Multiverse Computing's Series C funding round. The team arrived in Palma in strong form, having finished sixth at the 2026 ORC World Championship, and the regatta's official preview named GARM among the crews capable of fighting for the top positions, alongside rivals such as Estrella Damm, Rán, Nola, Elena Nova and HM Hospitales-Hydra.
ORC A produced one of the tightest finishes of the entire regatta. Going into the last day, the Estonian Nola and the Swedish Rán, owned by Niklas Zennström, were separated by a single point at the top of the standings, with a 20-point cushion over the rest of the fleet. Nola won the deciding race to take the class title, while Rán finished third on the water and settled for second overall. GARM completed the podium in third place, backing up its sixth-place result at the ORC Worlds with another strong showing on one of sailing's biggest stages.
Nola went on to be named overall champion of the 44th Copa del Rey Mapfre, calculated on compensated time across every ORC class. The Estonian boat, skippered by Margus Uudam with Olympic medallist Hugo Rocha as tactician, closed the regatta with 12.5 points from eight races.
The trophies were presented at the Palacio de la Almudaina in Palma, where King Felipe VI handed the awards to the class champions, runners-up and third-place finishers, including the GARM crew.
GARM's result caps a strong season for the GP Bullhound-backed project, which combines Per Roman's own competitive sailing background with an international crew of experienced racers, including several Spanish sailors. Under the GP Bullhound name, the team has also built a strong record in J/80 racing, with wins on international circuits and a runner-up finish at the J/80 World Championship.
Now in its 44th edition, the Copa del Rey Mapfre remains one of the most prestigious regattas on the Mediterranean calendar, bringing more than a hundred boats and 1,500 sailors from around twenty countries to the Bay of Palma each summer. The 45th edition is scheduled for July 31 to August 7, 2027.
