San Sebastián, November 25, 2025 Multiverse Computing, a leader in AI model compression, and Real Sociedad have announced a strategic alliance that brings together technological innovation and elite sport. The main goal of this collaboration is the development of advanced artificial intelligence solutions that enhance athletic performance. Leveraging Multiverse Computing’s expertise in AI model optimization and quantum computing, tools are being developed to improve decision-making, game analysis, and personalized training-setting a new benchmark for the integration of disruptive technologies in professional football.
The Player Injury Risk Monitor by Singularity software is built on an artificial intelligence engine inspired by quantum physics that transforms how elite teams manage player wellbeing and performance. By integrating historical injury data, real-time information on training loads and minutes played, subjective physical assessments, and external factors such as weather conditions or travel schedules, the technology identifies patterns and risk variables with high accuracy. Using this data, the system calculates individualized risk profiles and enables tailored adjustments to training and recovery programs, supporting more informed decision-making to maximize player performance and reduce injury risk.
According to Bixen Calzón, Head of the Evaluation and Data Unit at Real Sociedad, “tests carried out with our department have allowed us to estimate, at a theoretical level, that the application of this program could predict more than 33% of injuries. These simulations were based on historical data and internal modeling, and therefore should not be interpreted as outcomes achieved in real competition.”
Iraia Ibarzabal, Chief Growth Officer at Multiverse Computing, adds: “For Multiverse Computing, partnering with Real Sociedad on this project has been an opportunity to demonstrate how quantum-inspired AI can have a real impact and make a difference in such a competitive sector as elite sports. This initiative reflects our commitment to developing solutions that deliver tangible value-helping improve athletic performance, protect players’ health, and optimize club investment.”
Injuries in European Football: A Growing Challenge for Clubs
During the 2023–2024 season, injuries across the major European leagues resulted in a total cost of €732 million for clubs. an increase of 5% compared to the previous season. Over the past four years, 96 clubs accumulated 14,000 injuries, generating a combined cost of €2.3 billion.
European football continues to experience nearly one injury per match, with an estimated cost of €172,975 per game. This highlights the significant sporting and economic impact of injuries, particularly on the development of young players, who lose an average of 35 competitive days per injury. This limits their progress and affects club planning.
Through this collaboration agreement, Real Sociedad and Multiverse Computing are currently developing new technological solutions such as academy potential prediction, with the goal of further driving innovation in the sports sector. These AI-based solutions not only enable anticipation of risks and potential injuries but can also generate substantial economic impact by optimizing processes and reducing operating costs.
