Donostia-San Sebastián, 1 October 2026. Multiverse Computing and Muxunav have formed a long-term partnership to develop and launch specialised AI models for unattended commerce and regulated financial services, starting with Muxunav’s payment devices and Muxupay, the group’s payments company, which is currently seeking authorisation. Both companies share the conviction that the current approach to enterprise AI—huge general-purpose models rented from third parties and run elsewhere—is the wrong answer for any sector where regulatory compliance, latency and control over data are non-negotiable.
Three families of models underpin the first phase of the partnership.
Voice agent in Muxunav’s unattended payment devices. Exclusive to Muxunav in unattended payments, the agent combines speech recognition, an LLM and speech synthesis to assist users directly from the device: it explains products, guides purchases, verifies age when required by law, and resolves issues or activates support. It also provides information on allergens or electric vehicle charging rates. In the event of attempted tampering or damage, it acts in real time according to the operator’s protocols: blocking sales, triggering audible and visual alarms, logging the incident, notifying the operator and, where the protocol provides for it, connecting to the alarm receiving centre. These models can also be used on customer service lines at regulated institutions, referring complex cases and complaints to human staff.
KYC (Know Your Customer). Models that combine document reading, facial biometrics and screening against sanctions and politically exposed persons (PEP) lists to verify identities and facilitate customer onboarding, with human review where appropriate.
Fraud prevention. Models that analyse transactions and device, location and behavioural signals to detect risks in real time and flag or block suspicious transactions according to the institution’s criteria.
Trained on synthetic data and anonymised operational data processed in accordance with data protection regulations, these models are tailored to real-world onboarding, payment and customer service processes. Their first deployment will be in Muxunav’s devices, an environment with limited resources and variable connectivity. This will give Muxunav production-ready models without having to build its own AI team, while bringing solutions tested in real-world operations to the market.
All three areas are growing at double-digit rates. Identity verification, a regulatory requirement, is expected to grow from around US$16.5 billion in 2026 to nearly US$38 billion in 2034, as deepfakes undermine existing safeguards. Global losses from card fraud reached US$33.4 billion in 2024, while the fraud detection and prevention market is estimated to be growing at around 20% annually. Unattended commerce, which industry estimates suggest is growing by around 13% a year in Europe, is a channel where customer assistance cannot be outsourced: by definition, no one is there. Adoption is being held back by models that are too large, expensive and difficult to audit.
“The industry has assumed that serious AI means renting a giant model and sending data outside the organisation. A small model, trained on real data from the process, makes better decisions, faster, without leaving the institution’s own environment. If it fits in a machine on the street, it fits in any bank,” said Enrique Lizaso, co-founder and CEO of Multiverse Computing.
“Our main focus is machines that take payments in unattended settings, and this partnership will enable them to assist customers, explain products and protect themselves independently. This is a paradigm shift for the sector, a turning point in unattended retail. The goal is to blur and almost erase the line between the attended and unattended sales experience,” said Antonio Torres, founder and CEO of Muxunav.

About Muxunav
Muxunav is an engineering company based in Navarre that designs and integrates payment and control systems for unattended environments: vending, laundries, service stations, electric vehicle charging and access to sports facilities. Its devices enable operators to accept contactless and QR payments and manage their machine fleets in real time. The group has established Muxupay, a company intended to provide payment services, which will begin operating once it obtains the relevant authorisation. muxunav.com
